Gasp!
Yes, it’s bad. That doozie of a photo is my family. My dorky brothers are probably about to pinch me and my mom might be hiding the Stretch Armstrong that my brother tried to include. I’m sure my dad has threatened leftovers in a blender instead of taking us all out for dinner if we don’t just sit and smile for the camera.
Why am I showing you this?? Well it’s not because I think we look good I can assure you! It’s because no matter what we wore or how much we didn’t feel like going, we are glad we have the photo and several others like it over the years. Yes, maybe the church directory was what got us there and the studio background is boring. But we treasure it. We value it because those days are long gone and it’s all we have left to remind us of that stage of our lives. Well, my brothers are still dorks but you get the point.
When was the last time your family had a portrait made? Are you waiting to lose those last pounds? Don’t want to have to think about what everyone will wear? Waiting for the braces to come off? Newsflash: Life is happening with the pounds, the braces and yes even global pandemics! Don’t regret not capturing life as it is today because it WILL pass you by. You’ll wake up one day and wish you had the memories.
Oh, and those iPhone pics and social media posts are not your family’s archive. They will not be passed down for generations to come. They are digital snapshots gone as fast as MySpace was and that phone you didn’t back up before you accidentally jumped in the pool with it still in your pocket.
What will your kids have to remember the past? Your grandchildren? The only family portraits you regret are the ones you didn’t take. ….Well, except for maybe this one below.
Nah, still glad we have it. Even with my bad hair, awful outfit and all.
